Adoption application
Our adoption fees are based on the age, size, health, and temperament of the dog and can range from $50 – $750. A fellow rescue group wrote the following, which sums it up for all rescue groups:
Recently someone asked, “Why would you charge $500 for a rescue pet? Why not just place it in a good home?” The answer is that we need adopters who are willing to support all rescue pets, not just the dog they adopt. A young, healthy dog might cost us $350-500 in vet care, and many people will want to adopt it. An older one with health issues can easily cost $1000-2500 in veterinary expenses, and it may require months of foster care for rehabilitation, yet we can only ask for a minimal adoption fee, and it may be a long time until anyone comes forward to adopt it. Fees from the younger, more adoptable dogs help offset the cost of caring for the others. Most of our dogs have a sad story to tell, and some have suffered through years of neglect or abuse. We hope that you, too, are willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by supporting them through adoption fees. Without these funds, our rescue efforts would not be possible.”
Before you can adopt a dog from our Rescue, you must fill out an application and complete our approval process outlined below.
Step 1: Fill out an adoption application
Fill out the adoption application below on this page. Be sure to answer all questions marked with an asterisk and click submit at the bottom of the page. Submitting false information is immediate cause for an application to be canceled.
Step 2: Review of your application by Rescue Me
A Rescue Me Volunteer will review your application to determine if we will be able to find a dog for you. Our goal is to find a home for every dog where everyone will be happy. We appreciate your understanding should you be eliminated as an adoption candidate.
Step 3: Veterinary Reference Check
A Rescue Me volunteer will verify your veterinarian as listed on your application to ensure that your current pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered (we will not place one of our dogs in a home where there is another intact animal). If you do not have a pet, we will verify that the vet you have selected exists.
Step 4: Phone or Email Interview
A Rescue Me volunteer will contact you to conduct a phone interview consisting of questions about you, your family, your home and other scenarios to determine a suitable match for your home.
Step 5: Home Visit
The final step of the approval process is a home visit which can be done in person or virtually. This is to determine if you home is safe and acceptable for a small dog and to confirm that it aligns with your application.
Step 6: Adopt
Once you have completed and passed the home visit, you are ready to adopt one of our dogs. It will be your responsibility to check our website on a regular basis to see what dogs we have and inquire about them when interested. When you see a dog that you think is a match, you can contact us for more information and set up a potential meet & greet. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to drive to the foster home for the meeting.
